Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
